favorite kids books

I started homeschooling my oldest girls this year.  Right now it's just preschool but it's been tons of fun for me and I think for them as well.  One of my favorite parts is all of the great books that we read together!  Here are some of our favorites right now:

The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook by Joyce Lankester Brisley
    This is a great book for girls!  Milly-Molly-Mandy is always off doing a sweet adventure and my girls look forward to reading it.  It is a chapter book with short chapters.

The Year at Maple Hill Farm and Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm-Alice and Martin Provensen
  These books are great and follow Maple Hill Farm chronicling all the things that happen with the animals in a year.  Then in Animals of Maple Hill Farm it introduces all the farm animals and their personalities. 

Uncle Wiggily's Story Book  by Howard R. Garis
  This is an old book that follows the adventures of a "bunny gentleman" named Uncle Wiggily and his animal friends.  It also teaches character lessons.

The Berenstain Bears Big Book of Science and Nature
   We used this as a science book and it was so cute.  The girls loved it.  It's a good one to read a page or so a day and introduced some basic concepts of science and nature.  Might be hard to find though.

Stories from Africa
    This one will be hard to find but you can get it from sonlight.com or maybe used on amazon.  I can let you know more if you are interested.  I really really like this one.  It is six true stories from missionaries in Africa about how little children came to know Jesus, giving to missionaries etc.  Really good!

This year I let the girls decide what kind of class at the community center they wanted to take.  One of the girls chose ballet and the other chose an art class.  She had her heart set on taking this class and has looked forward to it for weeks and weeks.  She even made some pictures for her teacher, went to peek in the window of the class....you get the idea...she was excited.  So the day before the class started I get a call from the community center saying the class was canceled because there weren't enough kids....She was literally heartbroken.  I held and she sobbed and sobbed.  Another session starts on February 28 and we have been praying and praying for 2 MORE KIDS to sign up so they don't cancel the class.  So....anyone in the area have a child age 4-6 who would love an art class?  It is at the Morton Center Tuesdays from 3-4.  It costs 40$ and then a 20$ supply fee and goes for 6 weeks or so and then there is another session.   Please sign up!!! or please pray for my girl to get to take her class.
